2020 KPMG Ideation Challenge (KPMGIC): the conglomeration of great ideas


In order to bring fresh ideas to the fore, KPMG, the global network of professional firms providing Audit, Tax and Advisory services, is back with the KPMG Ideation Challenge. This annual event offers a unique experience to students, providing an opportunity to ideate around solutions with coaching and guidance from KPMG India professionals.

The initiative has been acting as a platform for students from all over the world for presenting their ingenious ideas and unconventional methodologies. This has brought some refined talent to the forefront and has helped the world discover visionaries from the STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and business fields.

Breathing life into an idea

This year, the initiative focuses on Data and Analytics (D&A) and challenges participants to bring practical ideas on the application of D&A in business.

The last two editions of KIC were designed to stretch participants’ imagination, challenging their creative limits. Arun M. Kumar, Chairman and CEO, KPMG in India, sharing insights on the potential of KIC said, “We are proud to see so many future business leaders participating in the KPMG Ideation Challenge 2020. This year we are asking participants to come up with innovative solutions that use the latest advanced analytical technologies to enable businesses to do more with less. I’m very confident that the winning team that will represent India at the world stage in Seoul in April 2020 will go there with path-breaking, innovative ideas.”

What does it take?
Over 6,000 students from around 75 prominent campuses in India expressed interest in participating in KPMG Ideation Challenge this year. During the competition in India, KPMG professionals identified more than 600 high potential ideas. After the semi-finals, experienced KPMG professionals selected nine teams for the India national finals.

Last year, the winning team from Canada waded through a maze of innovations to secure the first prize. Unmesh Pawar – Head of People, Performance and Culture, KPMG in India, further elaborated on the challenge saying, “The KPMG Ideation Challenge is testimony to the fact that every now and then a young mind is stretched by a new thought, and it never shrinks back to its former dimensions. We are keen on nurturing the future idea crusaders lay the foundation stone today, for a better tomorrow.” This year, the challenge seeks to scout for pioneering ideas that can help KPMG master their clients’ requirements of database operations with that one thought-bearing idea germinating within teams.

The winner takes it all
The teams selected as the finalists by the jury at the global level for the KIC will get an opportunity to fly to Seoul, South Korea with their ideas and compete with the other teams from different parts of the world at the global finals and USD 50,000 in seed funding for bringing their idea to life.

Apart from this, the finalists will also get the chance to work alongside diverse KPMG specialists to co-develop their idea and watch it transform into reality.
